Vinyl Overload - Crossroads Records and The LP Freakstore

So, you search high and low for that LP you grew up with. You go on the internet and managed to find it... you click purchase and wait patiently for it to arrive in the mail. It has become too easy. Its almost has become like iTunes and Spotify.

Since I am on a break from work, I took the opportunity to do it the old fashion way..I dropped by two new-ish music store.

THE LP FREAKSTORE

Run and managed by two young gentleman fondly known as Remy and Butet. Located in Kota Damansara, this first floor store not only sells the latest LPs but also various memoribilia and products from local independent designers. A modern outlay with a touch of antique but passiomately music based concept outlet. I have been buying from them online but being able to put a face on the chat messages made today's LP purchase more memorable and exciting.

The LP Freak Store X MARKAS
68-1, Jalan PJU 5/21, The Strand Kota Damansara

They are open Tuesday to Sunday 2 to 7 pm. Payment by cash or bank transfer.

Crossroads Records

Also located in Kota Damansara, shop owner Hafeez Rashid and wife made it a point that their shop is family friendly. Given the fact that he has travelled the world in his previous profession, he has a fair collection of pre-loved LPs he collected on his travels. Now, he is a collector turn LP shop owner, providing assorted musical genre, not only on vinyl but also on CD and cassettes.  Both used and new LPs are available at his shop.

You can hang out here for hours without noticing the time. it has listening stations, small pantry, a mini performance stage and also a surau.

Hafeez grades his records using the internationally known grading system i.e. NM, VG+, VG etc. All LPs can be checked and tested before purchase and there is also a record cleaning machine for you to bring home spanking clean vinyls.

Crossroads have a decent collection of first pressings and if you are lucky, there are also master recordings. There are also some really rare ones, well at least rare to me such as Pearl Jam's No Code and Smashing Pumpkin's Machina.

Crossroads Records is located at:

Palm Spring@ Damansara Shop Lot,
Lot C- Seksyen 13, Jalan PJU 3/31
Kota Damansara

Operating hours:

Payment by cash or bank transfer.

Its really refreshing to spend time digging through vinyl crates to find those gems that really means a lot to you personally. I am no collector as I am more a music listener. But the feeling of getting the music you love on LPs while you flip them in the crate, is something that you cannot get by clicking purchase icon on the laptop. Not to mention that its even more fun when the shop owners like Hafeez and wife, Butet and Remy are fun and passionate people who would like to share their love of music and vinyl with others.

If you guys looking for something different from Amcorp Mall, do drop by The LP Freakstore and Crossroads Records.''

Both are also available on Facebook.
